  • Obtained a higher multiplier for Local Governmnt Employees than that of State Government Employees
  • Reclassification and upgrades of social services positions and classifications.
  • Successfully advocated for conversion of annual leave to sick leave.
  • Attained membership in State Employees Credit Unions for local government employees.
  • Successfully advocated against redefinition of social wroker positions, protecting hundreds of jobs across the state.
  • Successfully advocated for additional child welfare staff.
  • Successfully advocated for program support and training for Multiple Response System counties.
  • Successfully advocated for an Executive Director position for the Child Fatality Task Force, which has been instrumental in the research and verification of claims by local departments of social services that CPS workers are ofen overworked and underpaid.
  • Successfull advocated for methamphetamine training for DSS staff.
  • Successfull advocated for the NC FAST implementation, which is an automation program that will help to streamline many operations carried out via pen and paper.
  • Successfully advocated for county Medicaid relief, reducing the county-share of the annual Medicaid budget.
  • Successfully halted legislation which would have empowered commissioners in all 100 counties to dissolve local boards of social services and owuld have placed all jobs at local departments of social services in jeopardy.
  • Successfully advocated for a House Study Commission on Local DSS Services, which will study ways to assure that local departments of social services have the resources necessary to fulfill their mandated roles.
  • Successfully advocated for the blockage of Senate bills which addressed juvenile discovery orders, non-secure custody criteria, and juvenile notices of appeal, which would have made the jobs of Child Welfare Social Workers considerably harder, had they passed.
  • Worked diligently and successfully to bring out an end of the Alexander court order.
  • Improvements in social services system, including: Increased In-Home and other services for older/disabled adults; program integrity reforms; additional staffing in child welfare and other areas; improved child support collection laws; and input of the "front line perspective" into the development of program policies and procedures.
